WELCOME TO "DIVE AND LEARN"

Dive Source Scuba's - Modular PADI Training System:

"Dive and Learn" is our way of let you train with us whenever and wherever we are.

Simply put if you are a certified diver out diving and there is a Dive Source instructor there, you can work on your training and gain more skills and certifications for only $40 per dive/unit. (We call them "Dive Bucks")

All PADI scuba courses require a certain amount of dives/classroom sessions to complete them. With traditional courses that means you sign up for a set date and show up to do your course.

Now with our Dive and Learn program you can work around YOUR Schedule and get specific dives done almost anytime a Dive Source instructor is out diving.(including club, shop and pleasure dives)

Here are some examples:

1. Advanced Certification:

"Diver Jim" wants to complete his advanced certification which requires 5 PADI adventure dives  (Deep, Navigation and 3 electives) but he just can't make any specific advanced course weekends due to work etc.

So Jim simply comes into Dive Source and buys his PADI Adventures in Diving Textbook as well as 5 of the Dive Source "Dive Bucks" which are basically prepaid training dive vouchers and then get's out diving.

Over the next few weeks Jim goes on a couple club shore dives as well as a couple boat dives and during that time he does his briefings with the DS Instructor present and pay's him with his Dive Bucks.

The Instructor signs off on his logbook and his dive buck and when his 5 dives are complete he pops into Dive Source and they register his Advanced C-Card .He walks away with a printed temp card and the permanent one shows up in two weeks.

2. Specialty Certification (Wreck Specialty):

Diver "Darlene" completed her advanced cert. last year and is working on her Master Scuba Diver certification (5 specialties, Advanced and Rescue).

One of the specialties that interest her is Wreck Diver and that requires four dives to complete it. During her Advanced course she completed one adventure wreck dive which counts towards it, so now she only needs three more and to read the Wreck Diver Specialty manual.

On Wednesday Night there is a charter in Port Hope on the wreck of the PB Locke that "Instructor Dave" is going on for fun, so she signs up for it and pays the charter fee.

On Wed. she arrives on site a bit early and gives a "Dive Buck" to her instructor Dave who goes over the knowledge review in her Wreck specialty manual with her. During the dive she succesfully does the skills asked of her and he signs off on her logbook (it's now 2 down and 2 to go...).

Over the next couple weeks the cycle repeats itself with other shop instructors at different locations and soon she is finished her Wreck Specialty and is that much closer to becoming a PADI Master Scuba Diver...

3. Classroom Based Course (i.e.Equipment Specialty)

Diver "Betty" wants to know more about her equipment and is only one away from reaching her goal of becoming a PADI  Master Scuba Diver. Over the winter she sees there is a PADI Equipment specialty course at the Dive Source and is listed as costing $120 or 3 dive bucks and the text book is optional.

Betty simply signs up for the one day course and really learns the ins and outs of her gear. On top of this she gains the last specialty she requires for her MSD Cert. She then comes into the shop gives the shop one "Dive Buck" to register her PADI Master Scuba Diver , the information is sent into PADI and she realizes her goal.

Dive Buck Costs:

Dive Bucks are essentially gift certificates for training and the more you buy the cheaper they get. They maybe used for just about any PADI Course at Dive Source and don't expire. They also maybe used for rental gear but not for charter fees, books or merchandise.

Course Breakdown:

Different courses require a different amount of dives and possibly classroom sessions. The Dive Source model is based on PADI standards as well as what our experiance has shown is needed to do the job properly.

*Specialty Credits - Any dive you did for your PADI Advanced course maybe used towards the specific specialty it relates to so you maybe able to deduct one dive from what is shown.

 Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use my previous recreational dives towards a specialty ?

While you may have already done deep dives. wreck dives etc. these do not qualify to be used towards advanced or specialty certification as they were not done under the supervision of a PADI instructor. Also each course has specific skills that must be done on specific dives as part of each course in conjunction with the bookwork and knowledge reviews.

Can I work on more than one specialty on a single dive?

No - Each specialty dive is for specific skils for that specialty, so you can't do multiple skills per dive. (Sorry but no night time navigation on a deep wreck while you take pictures in your drysuit...)

Is there a time limit to complete dives an Advanced or a specialty class?

No there is no limit to how long you can take to complete your advanced or a specialty class. This program is all about you learning at your own pace and having fun. If you want to take a class/do a dive then do some just for fun you can.

Why are some dive bucks coloured differently?

It's simply our way of keeping track of the ones that were bought in bulk All of them have the exact same value to the customer. Don't forget the more you buy the cheaper they get plus they don't expire.

If did some dives towards a specialty elsewhere but want to finish the course with Dive Source. Can I do that? - Providing you have proper documentation from your instructor the answer is Yes. However Dive Source does charge a $40 admin fee to register the card in addition to the dives you need.
